I lived in Islington, until the end of my teens, and went to school in Highbury. It will come as no surprise, therefore that I came to support my local team, Arsenal. This support began at the end of the 1950s, and I have only recently regained my season-ticket. Those early days, and the ‘60s that followed, were really awful, and there’s no logical reason I continued to go to Highbury, except foolhardy loyalty. Then came 1971 - winning the League at Tottenham, and winning the Cup-Final after going 1 - 0 down. Things were beginning to look better.
It’s ironic that, these days, we now consider that only coming second in the league, Winning the FA Cup, but not progressing too far in the European Champions’ League, is a bad season. It’s all a question of perspective, really - the ups of 3 doubles, and the downs of losing to the likes of Swindon or Luton at Wembley. Yes, Greavsie, it IS a funny old game. That’s why we love it.
Anyway, the following few pages are devoted to the sport we all love and hate at the same time. Navigation throughout this site and related sites is by means of the buttons in the left margins, plus some, but not many, additional links. Clicking on the 'Family Crest', at the top left on any page, will take you back to the home page.
